Frequently Asked Questions
Why is yellow used to correct purple lips?
Color theory: yellow and purple are complementary colors—opposites on the color wheel. When mixed or layered, complementary colors neutralize each other. Applying Sunny Yellow to purple or cool-toned dark lips: (1) Neutralizes the purple undertone: the yellow pigment cancels out the purple, creating a more neutral base. (2) Warms the lip tone: yellow adds warmth to cool-toned lips, making them more receptive to warm lip blush colors. (3) Creates a clean base: the neutralized base allows the final lip blush color to appear true-to-color rather than being affected by the underlying purple tone. Without correction: pink lip blush on purple lips often heals with a cool, muddy result. With Sunny Yellow correction: the same pink heals true-to-color.
How does Sunny Yellow differ from Pale Orange and Milk Orange correctors?
Sunny Yellow: for purple, cool-toned, and blue-toned dark lips. Yellow neutralizes purple on the color wheel. Pale Orange: for lighter brown or warm-toned dark lips. Orange warms and lightens brown pigmentation. Milk Orange: for deeper brown or heavily hyperpigmented lips. Stronger orange correction for stubborn brown pigmentation. Key rule: identify the lip undertone before selecting the corrector. Purple/cool lips → Sunny Yellow. Brown/warm lips → Pale Orange or Milk Orange. Lips with both purple and brown tones → mix Sunny Yellow + Pale Orange for a custom corrector.
Can Sunny Yellow be mixed with lip tone pigments?
Yes — Sunny Yellow mixes seamlessly with all YDPMU Powder Hybrid and NEO Organic lip tone pigments: mix Sunny Yellow + Light Pink for a warm, corrected pink on purple lips. Mix Sunny Yellow + Light Coral for a warm, corrected coral result. Mix Sunny Yellow + Ouba Pink for a warm, corrected rose. Add a small amount of Sunny Yellow to any lip tone to increase warmth and reduce cool undertones. Pre-mixing the corrector with the lip tone allows single-pass application—reducing procedure time and client discomfort. Start with 10–20% Sunny Yellow and adjust based on the client's lip depth and undertone.
How much Sunny Yellow should I apply for effective correction?
The amount depends on the depth and intensity of the purple/cool undertone: Light purple tint: 1 light pass of Sunny Yellow, allow to heal, then apply lip blush color. Medium purple lips: 1–2 passes of Sunny Yellow in the first session, assess healed result, proceed with lip blush in session 2. Deep purple or heavily pigmented lips: may require a dedicated correction session (Session 1: Sunny Yellow only) before applying lip blush color in Session 2. Always assess the healed result before proceeding—the immediate post-procedure appearance is always darker than the healed result.
Is Sunny Yellow suitable for use as a standalone lip blush color?
No — Sunny Yellow is a corrector pigment, not a standalone lip blush color. It is designed to be used as: (1) A corrector layer before applying the final lip blush color. (2) A mixing component to add warmth to other lip tones. (3) A base layer for gradient lip blush on dark or purple lips. Applying Sunny Yellow alone as a lip blush color would result in an unnatural yellow appearance—it must be used as part of a correction + lip blush workflow, not as a final color.
