Frequently Asked Questions

Why do PMU pigments need to be mixed before use?

PMU pigments contain suspended pigment particles that naturally settle to the bottom of the bottle during storage—especially organic and hybrid pigments. Using unmixed pigment causes: (1) Inconsistent color: the first drops from an unmixed bottle are mostly carrier liquid (too light), while the last drops are concentrated pigment (too dark). (2) Unpredictable healed results: inconsistent pigment concentration leads to uneven healed color across the treated area. (3) Color shift: some pigment components settle faster than others—using unmixed pigment can alter the color balance and produce unexpected healed tones. Always mix thoroughly before every procedure—even if the bottle was mixed recently, pigments begin settling again within minutes.

How long should I mix pigments before a procedure?

Mixing time depends on the pigment type and how long it has been sitting: Recently used pigments (same day): 10–15 seconds of vortex mixing is sufficient. Pigments stored overnight or longer: 20–30 seconds of vortex mixing for thorough blending. Pigments stored for weeks or months: 30–60 seconds, then check visually—the pigment should appear uniform in color with no visible separation. After mixing: hold the bottle up to the light and check for uniform color throughout. If you see a darker layer at the bottom or a lighter layer at the top: mix for an additional 15–30 seconds.

Can the Tattoo Ink Mixer be used with all YDPMU pigment bottle sizes?

Yes — the vortex mixer is compatible with standard PMU pigment bottle sizes including YDPMU's 6ml, 12ml, and 15ml bottles. Place the bottle cap-down on the mixer pad and press gently to activate. For larger bottles: ensure the bottle is stable on the mixer pad before activating. The mixer is not designed for very large bottles (50ml+)—for large-format pigments, use the Pigment Shaker instead.

Is the Tattoo Ink Mixer different from the Pigment Shaker?

Tattoo Ink Mixer (this product): electric vortex mixer. Place bottle on pad and press to activate—creates a vortex inside the bottle for thorough mixing. Best for standard PMU pigment bottles (6–15ml). Fast, hands-free operation. Pigment Shaker: vibration-based shaker with suction cup base. Clamps the bottle and vibrates for mixing. Best for larger bottles or when vortex mixing is not suitable. Both achieve thorough pigment mixing—the vortex mixer is faster for standard bottles; the shaker is better for larger volumes or bottles that don't fit the vortex pad.
