Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Pigment Shaker and the Tattoo Ink Mixer?

Pigment Shaker (this product): vibration-based shaker with suction cup base. The bottle sits on or is held against the shaker pad while it vibrates. Best for larger bottles (up to 110mm diameter) or bottles that don't fit a vortex mixer pad. Suction cup base provides stable desktop operation. Tattoo Ink Mixer: electric vortex mixer. Place bottle cap-down on the pad and press to create a vortex inside the bottle. Best for standard small PMU bottles (6–15ml). Faster for small bottles. Both achieve thorough pigment mixing—the Pigment Shaker handles a wider range of bottle sizes; the Ink Mixer is faster for standard small bottles. For studios with both small and large pigment bottles: having both tools covers all mixing needs.

How long should I run the Pigment Shaker before a procedure?

Shaking time depends on how long the pigment has been sitting: Recently used (same day): 15–20 seconds is sufficient. Stored overnight or longer: 30–45 seconds for thorough mixing. Stored for weeks or months: 45–60 seconds, then check visually for uniform color. After shaking: hold the bottle up to the light—the pigment should appear uniform with no visible separation or settling. If separation is still visible: shake for an additional 20–30 seconds. Always mix immediately before dispensing—pigments begin settling again within minutes of stopping.

Is the Pigment Shaker compatible with all YDPMU pigment bottle sizes?

Yes — the Pigment Shaker accommodates bottles up to 110mm in maximum diameter, covering all standard YDPMU pigment bottle sizes: 6ml bottles, 12ml bottles, 15ml SMP pigment bottles, and larger format bottles. For very small bottles (6ml): the Tattoo Ink Mixer may be faster and more convenient. For 12ml, 15ml, and larger bottles: the Pigment Shaker provides thorough mixing with its powerful vibration action.

Can the Pigment Shaker be used on any work surface?

The suction cup base works best on smooth, flat, non-porous surfaces: Works well on: glass, smooth laminate, polished wood, acrylic, and most smooth desktop surfaces. Less effective on: textured, rough, or porous surfaces where the suction cup cannot form a complete seal. For best stability: ensure the work surface is clean and dry before attaching the suction cup. Press the suction cup firmly onto the surface before operating. If the shaker slides during operation: clean both the suction cup and the work surface with a damp cloth and allow to dry before reattaching.
