Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between SK-14 and SK-15?
SK-14 — Medium Brown, Warm. Standard medium brown—best for clearly medium brown skin. SK-15 — Medium-Deep Brown, Rich Warm. Deeper and richer—best for medium-deep brown skin. For clients between the two: mix SK-14 + SK-15 in varying ratios for a precise intermediate match.
Can SK-14 be mixed with other shades?
Yes — SK-14 is fully mixable with all other shades: mix SK-14 + SK-13 for a lighter light brown. Mix SK-14 + SK-15 for a deeper medium-deep brown. Mix SK-14 + SK-12 for a lighter deep tan. SK-14's warm character makes it a versatile mixing base for medium brown formulas.
What skin conditions can be treated with SK-14?
SK-14 is suitable for: surgical scars on medium brown skin, vitiligo patches on medium brown complexions, stretch marks on medium brown skin, hypopigmented areas on warm medium brown complexions, and post-procedure skin discoloration on medium brown skin. Vitiligo on medium brown skin creates high contrast—precise color matching is especially important for natural-looking results.
How do I handle hyperpigmented areas (darker than surrounding skin) with SK-14?
Skin camouflage tattooing works by depositing pigment to match lighter areas—it cannot lighten hyperpigmented (darker) areas. For clients with hyperpigmentation darker than their surrounding skin: skin camouflage is not the appropriate treatment. Refer these clients to a dermatologist for hyperpigmentation treatments (chemical peels, laser, topical treatments). Skin camouflage is specifically for hypopigmented areas (lighter than surrounding skin) such as scars, vitiligo, and stretch marks.
Is SK-14 suitable for camouflaging keloid scars?
Keloid scars present unique challenges for skin camouflage: keloids are raised, thickened scar tissue that may continue to grow. Tattooing on active or unstable keloids is not recommended—it can stimulate further keloid growth. For stable, non-growing keloids: camouflage tattooing may be possible but results are less predictable due to the different texture and pigment absorption of keloid tissue. Always obtain medical clearance from a dermatologist before treating keloid scars, and set very realistic expectations with the client.
